Is there a recipe app without a subscription?
Yes — Cove, a recipe app for iPhone and iPad, has no subscription at all. It is free for up to 15 recipes, and the two paid tiers, Collector ($5.99) and Chef ($24.99), are one-time purchases you pay once.
What each tier includes
- Free ($0): up to 15 recipes, unlimited imports from recipe websites, cookbooks, weekly plan, shopping list, cooking mode and themes.
- Collector ($5.99, once): unlimited recipes, sync across your devices, and 10 social-media imports plus 10 photo or PDF imports a month.
- Chef ($24.99, once): everything in Collector, with up to 150 social and 150 photo or PDF imports a month, shown as unlimited under fair use.
- Upgrade later: Chef bought as an upgrade from Collector costs $19.00, so $5.99 + $19.00 equals the $24.99 of buying Chef directly.
All purchases are made through the App Store as one-time purchases and can be restored with “Restore Purchase”. Prices as shown in the US App Store; other countries show their local price in the app.
More questions
- Do I pay every month or every year?
- No. Cove has no subscription, no trial that turns into a payment and no recurring charge. Collector and Chef are paid once.
- What happens when I reach 15 recipes on the free tier?
- The free library holds up to 15 recipes, so you cannot add more until you remove one or unlock Collector or Chef. Everything you have saved stays available.
- Are weekly planning and the shopping list free?
- Yes. The weekly plan, shopping list, cooking mode, cooking history, cookbooks and themes are part of the free version.
- Are imports from recipe websites really free?
- Yes, links to recipe websites import for free and without a counter. The only ceiling on the free tier is the 15-recipe library.
- Does Cove show ads or track me?
- No ads and no tracking. Cove has no product analytics; crash reports go through Sentry and carry no personal data.
- Do I have to pay again on a new iPhone?
- No. Tap “Restore Purchase” on the new device with the same Apple Account and your tier is back.
