Tonnentag by Made by PB is a bin collection calendar for iPhone, made for households in Germany and for people who are new to the German bin system. The app reads the calendar link (iCal/ICS) or calendar file your local waste company publishes, or a schedule you enter yourself, and reminds you which bins to put out. An A–Z sorting guide in English and German explains what goes into Restmüll (general waste), Bio (organic), Papier (paper), Gelber Sack (yellow bag) and glass. One address with reminders and the sorting guide are free; Tonnentag Pro is a one-time purchase of €2.99. The app needs no account, shows no ads and never asks for your location.

What Tonnentag does

One calendar for every district

Paste the calendar link from your waste company’s website or share its ICS file with Tonnentag. Subscribed links update automatically. No link? Enter the schedule yourself, for example “Bio: every 2nd Tuesday”.

Reminded the evening before

Choose the evening before or the morning of collection, at a time that suits you, and turn each bin on or off. The notification names the bins, for example “Tonight: paper + yellow bag (Gelber Sack)”, and you can mark them as put out without opening the app.

What goes where?

The A–Z sorting guide covers everyday items from pizza boxes to coffee capsules, each with its bin colour and a short explanation. Search works in English and German, and Pfand (deposit bottles), glass drop-off times and Sperrmüll (bulky waste) are explained too. The guide is free and works offline.

Every bin at a glance

Restmüll, Bio, Papier, Gelber Sack, Glas, Sperrmüll, Schadstoffmobil and Grünschnitt each have their own colour, icon and name. German terms stay in German, so you recognise them on bins and letters. Siri answers “Which bin goes out tomorrow?” as well.

Tonnentag Pro

Where do the collection dates come from?
From your local waste company. Many waste companies in Germany publish their collection calendar as an iCal/ICS link or file on their website; you paste the link into Tonnentag or share the file with the app. If there is no calendar, you enter the schedule yourself, for example “Bio: every 2nd Tuesday”.
What happens to my data?
Your addresses, calendar links, dates and settings stay on your iPhone, and Made by PB has no access to them. Tonnentag has no account, never asks for your location and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking. Your iPhone downloads the calendar directly from the waste company.
Which devices and languages does Tonnentag support?
Tonnentag runs on iPhone with iOS 26 or later and is coming to the German App Store only. The app is in German and English, and the sorting guide can be searched in both languages. There is no version for Android or the web.
Is Tonnentag official, and what if a date is wrong?
Tonnentag is not an official app of any municipality or waste company; it shows the dates from the calendar you import or enter. If a collection moves, for example because of a public holiday, your waste company’s calendar is what counts. Subscribed calendar links update automatically when the waste company changes them.
Can my household use Tonnentag together?
Yes, with Tonnentag Pro. You can share an address with the people you live with, and everyone sees who put the bin out. Everyone who joins needs Tonnentag Pro as well; with Family Sharing, one purchase covers your family group. Shared dates and tick-offs are stored in your private iCloud via Apple CloudKit.
