Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 May 2026
Overview
Made by PB ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use this website and our iOS applications. Personal data is processed in accordance with the GDPR and applicable German law.
Controller
The controller responsible for personal data processed on this website is Patrick Böttge, Ferdinand-Rhode-Str. 5, 04107 Leipzig, Germany. Email: [email protected]. The full legal notice is available on our Imprint page. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer because we are not legally required to do so.
What We Process
When you visit this website, our hosting provider receives technical request data (IP address, user agent, referrer, timestamp) needed to deliver the page; with your consent we additionally use Google Analytics 4 (see below). When you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to send. Our iOS apps are designed to keep data on your device – see the "App Data" section. We do not sell your personal data and do not pass it on to third parties except as described in this policy.
Hosting and Server Logs
This site is hosted on Firebase Hosting, operated by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Each request is logged with IP address, user agent, referrer URL, requested resource, and timestamp for the purpose of delivering content, ensuring operational security, and detecting abuse. Lawful basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable, secure service). Logs are typically retained for a few days by Google before being aggregated or deleted. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses; a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR) with Google is in place.
Website Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
On this website we use Google Analytics 4 ("GA4"), a service provided by Google Ireland Limited. GA4 helps us understand how visitors interact with the site (pageviews, referrers, approximate location, device/browser). Lawful basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given via our cookie banner and revocable at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. If you decline or withdraw, no GA cookies are set and any existing ones are removed. Cookies set by GA4 include _ga and _ga_<container-id> with a typical lifetime of up to 24 months. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (July 2023 adequacy decision) and Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable. Your consent itself is stored locally on your device for up to 12 months; after that the banner re-appears.
Email Contact
If you contact us at [email protected] or [email protected], we process the email address and the content of your message to respond to your inquiry. Lawful basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for pre-contractual or contractual matters, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering inquiries). Messages are retained until your inquiry is resolved and any applicable statutory retention periods (commercial/tax law) have expired.
Local Storage on This Site
Aside from cookies set by Google Analytics (only after consent), this site stores small values in your browser's localStorage that are technically necessary under § 25 (2) no. 2 TTDSG and require no consent: cookie-consent (your consent choice and timestamp, kept up to 12 months) and theme (your light/dark mode preference). These values stay in your browser and are not transmitted to us.
Third-Party Services
On this website the only optional third-party service that processes personal data is Google Analytics 4 (described above), and only after your consent. The site is delivered via Firebase Hosting (also described above). Some of our apps additionally use Apple's built-in frameworks and APIs governed by Apple's privacy policy.
App Distribution via the App Store
Our iOS apps are distributed through the Apple App Store. When you download or purchase an app, Apple Inc. and Apple Distribution International Ltd. act as independent controllers for the data necessary for the transaction (Apple ID, billing data, download metrics). Their processing is governed by Apple's privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. We receive only aggregated, non-identifying download/sales statistics from Apple.
App Data
Data created in our iOS apps is stored locally on your device by default. Cove offers optional sync between iPhone and iPad: enabling it requires a Cove account, and your recipes are then also stored on our backend at Supabase (Supabase, Inc., 3500 S Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901, USA), EU hosting region, under a Data Processing Agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). Where personal data is transferred to the USA, this is based on appropriate safeguards (the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, Art. 46 GDPR). Recipes stored for sync are not end-to-end encrypted. Sync stays off until you switch it on, and without it no recipe data leaves your device. App-specific details for Cove are documented on the Cove product page.
Your Rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectify (Art. 16), erase (Art. 17), restrict (Art. 18) and port (Art. 20) your personal data, and to object (Art. 21) to processing based on legitimate interest. You may withdraw any consent at any time with effect for the future, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR) – for users in Germany this is typically the data protection authority of your federal state.
Automated Decision-Making
We do not use automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes – for example new processing purposes – will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date, and where required we will request a fresh consent.
