Terms of Use Tonnentag
Effective: 5 October 2026 · Version 1.0
These Terms of Use apply between you and Patrick Böttge, Ferdinand-Rhode-Str. 5, 04107 Leipzig, Germany (“we”), the provider of the Tonnentag app. They are also the licence agreement for the app.
In short: Tonnentag shows the collection dates from the calendar you import or enter yourself and reminds you of them. Tonnentag is not an official app of any municipality or waste company. Your local waste company’s dates and rules always apply.
1. Consent
You accept these Terms when you tick the box in the first step of the app and tap “Agree and continue”. The app stores the version and time of your consent on your iPhone.
2. What Tonnentag does
Tonnentag
- reads collection dates from a calendar link (iCal/ICS) or calendar file that you add, or from a schedule you enter yourself;
- assigns the dates to bin types (you can change this) and shows them with colour, icon and name;
- refreshes subscribed calendar links from your iPhone when you open the app and when iOS allows it in the background;
- reminds you with local notifications on your iPhone;
- contains a sorting guide with general information on what goes in which bin;
- with Tonnentag Pro, offers multiple addresses, widgets, a Live Activity, custom times per bin and shared tick-offs via iCloud with people you invite.
3. What Tonnentag does not do
No official information. Tonnentag is not operated or reviewed by any municipality, district or waste company. We do not create dates ourselves. The dates are only as correct and current as the source you add or the schedule you enter. If your waste company moves dates (for example after public holidays) and does not update its calendar, Tonnentag cannot know.
Sorting guide. The guide gives general information for Germany. Each municipality sets its own sorting rules, which can differ (for example a recycling bin instead of the yellow bag, food leftovers in the organic bin). Your municipality’s rules apply. The guide is not legal information and does not protect you from fees or fines that your waste company or municipality imposes for wrong sorting.
Reminders. Tonnentag schedules reminders on your iPhone; iOS decides whether and when they appear. They may arrive late, silently or not at all, for example if notifications are turned off, a Focus is active, the iPhone is off, or you change the date or time zone. The Live Activity is an extra display and does not replace a reminder.
Missed collection. Collection dates come from your waste company – from its calendar link or the calendar file you add – or from the schedule you enter yourself. The app, the calendar refresh and the reminders may fail or be delayed. Your waste company’s dates and announcements always prevail. If you miss a collection, we are liable for it only under Section 9.
4. Updates
We provide the updates needed for Tonnentag to work as described, including security updates and updates to the sorting guide, for the period you can reasonably expect given the nature of the app (Section 327f German Civil Code). The app shows the sorting guide’s version in Settings. The statutory rules for digital products apply to defects (Sections 327 et seq. German Civil Code).
5. Your part
- Only add calendars you are allowed to use, and follow the terms of the calendar’s provider.
- After importing, check that the detected bins and the first dates are correct; if in doubt, compare important dates with your waste company’s information.
- Many waste companies publish a new calendar every year. Tonnentag tells you when an address’s dates are about to run out; get the new link from your waste company.
- Allow notifications if you want to use reminders.
6. Privacy
See the Privacy Policy (Settings › Privacy). We do not receive your addresses, calendar links or dates.
7. Licence
You may use Tonnentag on Apple devices you own or control, within the Usage Rules of the Apple Media Services Terms (including Family Sharing). The licence is non-exclusive and non-transferable. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or distribute the app or the sorting guide’s content, except where the law expressly allows it.
8. Purchase
Tonnentag is free. One address with reminders and the sorting guide stay free. “Tonnentag Pro” is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: it does not renew and costs nothing further. It is shared with your family through Family Sharing. The seller is Apple (Apple Distribution International Ltd.), which also handles billing. Withdrawal and refunds are handled by Apple: within 14 days you can choose “Cancel transaction” in your Apple purchase history, or open Apple’s window in the app under Settings › Pro › “Cancel purchase or request refund”. We do not grant a separate right of withdrawal. On a new device, use “Restore purchases”.
9. Liability
- We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act and under any guarantee.
- For slight negligence we are only liable for breach of an obligation whose fulfilment is essential for the proper performance of this contract and on which you may regularly rely – for example, that Tonnentag reads and shows the dates from your source correctly and schedules reminders as set. In that case our liability is limited to the typical, foreseeable damage.
- Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded. We are not responsible for errors in third-party calendars or for municipal rules that differ from the sorting guide (Section 3). For a missed collection – for example because the date was missing or wrong in your waste company’s information or calendar file, because a notification did not arrive or arrived late, or because the app was unavailable – we are liable only under no. 1 and no. 2.
- These rules also apply to our representatives and agents.
10. Apple
These Terms apply only between you and us, not Apple Inc. (“Apple”). We alone are responsible for the app, its content, maintenance and support. If the app has a defect, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund any purchase price paid. Your statutory rights against us (Section 4) are unaffected. Claims relating to the app (e.g. product liability, consumer or data protection law, third-party rights) are to be made against us, not Apple. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. embargo and are not on a U.S. sanctions list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
11. Changes
We will inform you in the app about material changes to these Terms and ask for your consent before further use. Disputes you reported to us before a change are governed by the previous version. Updates to the sorting guide are not changes to these Terms.
12. Law, jurisdiction, dispute resolution
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you habitually reside in another country, you keep the protection of that country’s mandatory consumer protection laws. There is no arbitration agreement. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
13. Final provisions
If a provision is invalid, the rest remains valid. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about Tonnentag. The German version (“Nutzungsbedingungen”) is available in the app; both versions have the same content.
